General Director of JSC "Georgian Railway" David Peradze held the meeting with Marily A. Frangista, Managing Director of the Company "FRANCO COMPANIA NAVIERA" and its management team

On May 10, 2019, General Director of JSC “Georgian Railway” David Peradze held the meeting with Marily A. Frangista, Managing Director of the Company “FRANCO COMPANIA NAVIERA” and its management team.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Greece- Ioseb Nanobashvili also attended the meeting.

JSC “Georgian Railway” actively works on the development of multimodal transport corridors, including the Middle Corridor, connecting China with Europe. To sustain the extension of the Middle Corridor a direct connection between Poti/Batumi ports with Constanta (Romania) and Odessa (Ukraine) with a medium size vessel (feeder) is studied.

Within the meeting, JSC “Georgian Railway” and the “FRANCO COMPANIA NAVIERA” agreed to share information related to the project and look for possible ways of cooperation.

It should be noted that in 2018, there was an increase by 177% (TEU) in number of containers transported through Georgia from China and totally, 573% increase in container transportation.

Besides, in 2019, the container vessel was deployed on the Caspian Sea, which positively affects transit timing as well as freight turnover and makes the establishment of a direct feeder links on the Black Sea more topical.
