An agreement on the renewal of the railway ferry service between Georgia and Bulgaria was signed
The management of the Georgian Railway held a meeting with the Georgian shipping company “Sea Line E60” and the Bulgarian Railway in Sofia.
Within the framework of the official visit, an agreement was signed between the parties on the renewal of railway ferry traffic. Preparatory works to restore the ferry service have been going on since the beginning of the year.
The parties have agreed on all the terms of mutual cooperation to restore the proper functioning of the railway ferry. The ferry traffic between the ports of Georgia and the Bulgarian port “Varna” with the railway ferry “Aia” sailing under the Georgian flag will be resumed in the near future.
It should be noted that rail/ferry traffic between the ports of Georgia and Bulgaria will strengthen direct transport links with Europe via the Black Sea.
Georgian and Bulgarian railways will regularly carry out cargo transportation through specially equipped railway ferries.
On the one hand, the mentioned traffic will attract additional cargo flows, which is important in terms of increasing the efficiency of the middle corridor route.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed hope that the regular traffic of ferry ships in the near future will increase demand for shipments in the mentioned direction.
